I have always been disappointed with the lack of good visual plug-in's for iTunes. Sure there's G-Force, but compared to WinAmp and some of the other Windows MP3 players we donít have squat. Thatís why I was ecstatic to find JewelCase. JewelCase renders a spinning 3D CD jewelcase of whatever your listening to. If the song has album art, it is used as the cover and altered for the back cover.
And JewelCase renders a track listing of all the other songs on the album (that you have, and have properly tagged) on the back.

"JewelCase is a plug-in that turns iTunes into a visual jukebox, displaying each song in a virtual CD jewel case, complete with album cover art, artist and album information... It's just like viewing real CDs in your collection!"

Simple, elegant, and free. Just like your mom.

Marathon Now Totally Free

Bungie Studio's excellent series of Marathon games (the prequals to Halo) are now 100% freely available for download. Marathon 1, 2, and Marathon Infinity went open-source back in 2000, but all the music, art, and maps were not legal to download. Now you can download all of it. And thanks to Aleph One you can play them on Mac OS X, in OpenGL, and with better networking.

"Marathon, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity are now all available free of charge. Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity are fully compatible with Aleph One; just replace the Marathon 2 or Infinity application with the Aleph One application, and enjoy the benefits of OpenGL graphics, improved networking, and everything else that has been added to the game engine since it went open-source in 2000"

The first public beta of PCSX for Mac OS X is out. PCSX is one of the best and most popluar Playstation 1 emulators for PC and thanks to opensource we now have a Mac OS X version. I have not had a chance to try it myself but reports on the web say it's much much better than Flarestorm. You will need a PSX bios image to run it, but they can be found via google pretty easily.

Bless Your iPod

"Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra (prayer) Om Mani Padme Hum, invites the blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion."

Bare with us here, there is a point!

"They also believe you can produce the same effect by spinning the written form of the mantra around in a prayer wheel (called "Mani wheels" by the Tibetans). The effect is said to be multiplied when more copies of the mantra are included, and spinning the Mani wheels faster increases the benefit as well."

Remember "Giiiive me the kniiife" from Eddie Murphy's The Golden Child?

"His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, has said that having the mantra on your computer works the same as a traditional Mani wheel. As the digital image spins around on your hard drive, it sends the peaceful prayer of compassion to all directions and purifies the area."

So just by downloading the above image to your iPod (or hard drive) you can bless it, and all that surrounds it.

All the Buddhist stuff in quotes came from here. Yes, this was sort-of mentioned on slashdot ages ago, but putting it on your iPod is my ďspinĒ on things.
