Das UberTap and Ultimate Cocktail

threetaps.jpg

The UberTap is bound to change the world (of college keggers)! With the Ubertap, you can laugh at the sad frat boys next door and their antiquated "hand-pump" and single hose dispenser because you my friend, you have THREE. The foot pedal pump means you never even have to break a sweat while filling endless dixie cups of PBR and Naughty Ice.

" What used to require expensive CO2 systems or tedious manual hand-pumping has now been replaced by a foot pump. This allows the user “handsfree” pressurization of the keg. By merging a brass and stainless steel coupling system with a stainless steel tri-splitter, Uber technology has created the toughest and most efficient beer dispensing device on the market today. A securely engineered seal and the seamless integration of the shaft with the tri-splitter allows the Uber tap to create the most efficient flow with the least amount of disturbance to the beer as it moves from the keg to the faucets. This system decreases wait time of users by allowing for swifter pumping and filling at the keg.

Features:
• Foot Pump replaces the less efficient traditional hand pump
• Tri-splitter to allow dispensation from three hoses at once
• Best engineered fit of any system available
• Seamless integration for least disturbance of beer as it moves through system"

ultimatecocktail.jpg

And when the sun comes up, and your tired of puking beer, thats when you break out The Ultimate Cocktail! This ingenious device combines with the Ubertap to form VOLTRON the perfect party drink dispenser.

"In pursuit of perfection Uber tap engineers synchronized innovation and performance to create the final stage in the evolution of the punch bowl. With so many other choice beverages to dispense, beer is now just one of many tapped by a picnic pump. By linking a keg tap to the Ultimate Cocktail, party throwers can now eliminate the all too common mess, sticky floor, and drunken beverage contamination, while providing their guests with a signature cocktail for any event.

Turn any drink into a tapped beverage. Just pour in your drink, tap, and serve. Using advanced technology and functionality, the Ultimate Cocktail consists of a pressurized bottle with a screw top keg valve making for a miniature, reusable, plastic keg for drinks ranging from sports quenchers to Jungle Juice.

Features:
• Connects to your UberTap™
• Unique Design allows you to pressurize and tap any beverage
• Available in 5, 15, & 30 liter units
• Available for A, D, G, S, & U UberTap™ systems"

I may have to replace my work coffee mug with one of these badboys.

Treehouse Pimpin

131071.jpg

Do you have a spoiled kid and an extra $18,000? Or maybe you have a pirate obsession and need a place to hide from your wife? Well then Costco has your answer.

"Each tree house is built in two main pieces: the playhouse and the log. The log is a real, old fallen tree that we hollow out using a chainsaw! To get into the playhouse, simply enter the door in the hollow log, climb up the ladder in the center of the log and pull yourself through the trap door in the floor of the playhouse. Kids or no kids, this tree house is an incredible addition to any landscape!

Every tree house is a unique creation. That's because no two logs are exactly alike. Although they each differ, they're all extraordinary! Skallywag Sloop tree houses are about 14’ tall at the roof peak, and 20’ tall at the top of the flag. The average log is about 4' in diameter. It's a snug fit, but a large adult can easily climb inside and stand straight up with room to spare."

When I was a kid, I was lucky to get an eyepatch, let-alone a kisk-ass pirateship treehouse thats worth more than my car.

Backlit Keyboard Disco

If your like me, your easily entertained by blinking lights, and semi-obsessed with iTunes visuals.
Well some guy named Stefan is too, so he wrote an iTunes plug-in that makes your backlit keyboard react to the music.

Backlight Visualizer for iTunes on MacOS X After seeing info on hacking the keyboard backlight of newer Apple portables and someone posting a CPU meter using the backlight, I decided that it would be time to put this into an iTunes plugin.

new and improved: now it can optionally blink the screen's backlight! Use at your own risk.

Analog Piracy

recordcopy.jpg

This how-to is my favorite kind of hack. They show you how to make a copy of a record (thats right VINYL baby) with some basic hardware store items. Silicon for the (reusable) base mold and some liquid plastic for the new record. It doesnt damage the original at all. You can only copy one side, and I am sure the mold would only last a few copies, but it's so simple even small children and stoners could do it.

The Pirate eBay

tpbdrunk.jpg

The Pirate Bay is auctioning off a single shirt and a night of drinking for a ridiculous amount of money. From the auction:

"The Pirate Bay is the worlds largest bittorrent tracker. It also has one of the world's most obnoxious, retarded yet pleasant crews behind it. You probably know who we are since you found this auction.
Since we have a lot of bandwidth usage and low salaries for working on our site, we've decided to sell a one of a kind t-shirt.
Yes, you heard us. We're selling out a really nice t-shirt. The t-shirt (as pictured below) is a an original copy of the original itself.

Anyhow, if you win this auction you will receive the "honor" of paying your own fare to Stockholm, Sweden, and pay for all your own expenses (i.e. hotel, food, 1337, whatever you're into). You will also get to treat the seller to a nice dinner in town with pleasant conversations about happy times and joy-joy feelings. And yeah, we need something to wash down the food with as well.

So, who will you be able to hang with? All of the crew basically. Anakata, Tiamo, and the non-mentionable behind the scenes-people. We're about 4-5 people that you are interested in meeting and showing of your precious new t-shirt to.

The pick-up date and size will be negotiated with the buyer."

As of this writing the auction is almost at $4,000.

Tickr For Flickr

tickr.jpg

Tickr for Flickr is a really nice and simple Flickr desktop ticker. Type in a tag, pick an image size and screen location, and watch the pictures scroll. Under the hood are tons of little features that make this one elegant application.

"But you probably want to know a little more about the images you're seeing, so you can point to them with your mouse and see the title the photographer gave the image, the tags which people have given the image, and the original image's size in pixels. If you double-click the image, its flickr page will open in your web browser.

tickr's contextual menu deserves a little discussion. By right- or Control-clicking on an image, you can bring up a contextual menu from which you can pause and resume the tickrshow, open the image's flickr page (same as a double-click), open a larger version of the image, or open the photographer's photostream page. All of these options will open a new window in your favorite web browser. You can also copy a link to the image's flickr page (great for showing your friends an image in Newspeak!) or copy the image itself to the clipboard. If you save the image to your Pictures folder, they'll be saved in a subfolder called tickr Downloads."

Apple Cracks FairPlay For You

The german news site MacNews.de is reporting a way to use iMovie to strip the FairPlay DRM from protected iTunes Music Store songs. Since I dont read german, and am too lazy for Babelfish, here's a quote from MacNN:

"Apple's iMovie can be used to strip the FairPlay digital rights management protection (DRM) on iTunes songs, according to a report by German news site Macnews.de. The site reports that Apple's own video tool can be used to create unprotected song files that be played on any computer without recompression, circumventing iTunes' DRM protection. iMovie users can use the "Share" feature of iMovie to export any imported (protected) song from the iTunes Music Store. The exported songs can either be stored in the un-protected AAC file format (used by Apple at the iTMS) or in the raw WAV file format; both of these formats are supported by iTunes."

Why Innovate When You Can Steal?

Apple's WorldWide Developer Conference 2004 kicked off today with a keynote from Steve that previewed many of the new features of Mac OS 10.4 a.k.a. Tiger.

Apple has covered WWDC in giant posters that talk smack about Microsoft stealing OS ideas from Apple including "Redmond, Start your photocopiers". Normally, I am all for this sort of jab, except when at the same event you also tout two huge new Tiger features that were flat out stolen from shareware developers!!

Spotlight -"Find anything, anywhere on your computer in no time flat". Gee that sounds and act's exactly like BlackTree's Quicksilver.

Dashboard -"Open fast access JavaScript widgets with a press of a button". Hrmmm thats exactly how I would describe Konfabulator.

Then there's Automator which is pretty similar to QuicKeys and 100 other scripting suites.
And don't forget that Safari now does RSS feeds, a la NetNewsWire.

Did apple forget the whole Sherlock/Watson scandal????? Apple stole all the ideas behind Watson to make Sherlock 3, and it sucked. It still sucks, but Watson suffered for a while and now after a year of no updates, Karelia is selling it off.

Is Steve sitting in his door and windowless house planning the death for every loved Mac shareware application?

* UOP disabling
* ForceRead mode for extracting damaged discs
* File size calculation in the various extraction modes
* DVD-ROM content extraction

Mac OS X MP3 Trojan

Antivirus company Intego has issued a Press Release regarding the first trojan horse that affects Mac OS X:

"The Trojan horse's code is encapsulated in the ID3 tag of an MP3 (digital music) file. This code is in reality a hidden application that can run on any Macintosh computer running Mac OS X.

Mac OS X displays the icon of the MP3 file, with an .mp3 extension, rather than showing the file as an application, leading users to believe that they can double-click the file to listen to it. But double clicking the file launches the hidden code, which can damage or delete files on computers running Mac OS X, then iTunes to play the music contained in the file, to make users think that it is really an MP3 file . While the first versions of this Trojan horse that Intego has isolated are benign, this technique opens the door to more serious risks.

This Trojan horse has the potential to do any of the following:
- Delete all of a user's personal files
- Send an e-mail message containing a copy of itself to other users
- Infect other MP3, JPEG, GIF or QuickTime files"

Maybe switchers will feel more at home now.

The father of RSS has proposed that RSS and Atom combine into a single format controlled by IETF. RSS and Atom feeds provide a way for websites to syndicate content from other websites, as well as allowing tons of other uses (RSS readers, stock tickers, ect. ect.). The "Man" who is in charge of our country, managed to fall off a SEGWAY! The scooter designed specifically so that people can't fall off.

Cha-Ching

The Japanese are obsessed with gambling. From Pachinko, to slots, to human-hunting, anything that can be bet on is popular in Japan. To help keep the Casino's sort of honest, the government reqiures them to change slot machines every 6 months. Luckily for us round-eye, that means shipping old slot machines to non-SARS infested countries for dirt cheap prices! Bidz.com appears to be the place to go for lots of them. My only problem is the no shippinng to Cali. But I can always ship it to my grandparents house in Vegas.

This is the one I want to buy

Shout out for Surpass

Our new host, Surpass Hosting pretty much rocks. They are cheap, they are quick, and they offer live support over AIM. Speeds seem reasonable and we've yet to see any downtime. They dont have telnet access and charge $20 for ssh access (which is not clear on their website) but they have been very very helpfull with getting this place up and running.

The Red Pill Expired

Saw the Matrix Reloaded tonight. I was disappointed. Maybe it was just built up so much, or I just had the wrong idea going in. I didn't hate it or anything, but it often felt like too many people were trying to direct it. The music was boring and never once grabbed you. The special effects were amazing, but most of the best parts you have already seen in the trailer. There are two random twin albino ghost vampires with dreadlocks that are impossible to kill that had the best special effects. One really cool thing was it was this theaters opening night so a large soda and large popcorn were only $1! Almost makes up for the $9.50 ticket price.

Just another day livin in tha hood

Tomorrow morning I get the keys to my new condo. My first Home. I should be ecstatic right now. But I'm not. My fucking car got broken into today while I was at work. I had a lot of decent stereo stuff in it and it's all gone. It was in broad daylight and a fairly busy parking lot. I know I am lucky that I still have the car (I wish they stole it) but it really pisses me off. Thats life on the Westside. A friend is giving me a good deal on his old amp and sub, but I have to buy a new in-dash MP3 player to replace my Aiwa CDC-MP3. Too many to choose from (no I am not going to buy it from crutchfield, but it's useful for comparing specs). I need a front mounted input jack for my iPod and it looks like only the Aiwa and JVC have it. Any ideas?

iTunes 4 Stealing...Sorta

iTunesDL lets you download from people's shared iTunes 4 music. The 3 songs I have tried have all stopped at 4.8mb, but it's a work in progress. Find people sharing with iTunes Tracker, ServerStore, or at Spymac Music.

RTFM

I have been playing The Getaway for about two weeks now, and just passed the mansion with the lasers. "Why haven't you finished it?" you ask? Cause I DIDN'T READ THE FUCKING MANUAL. The game has no "training" mode or level so I just jumped in and figured it out by playing. I can't remember any time in my gaming history (easily 400 games) that I have missed out on MAJOR features of game-play due to not reading the manual, but now it's happened.

It turns out there is an Auto-Aim that is meant to be the primary attack but only works when enemies are around, so when you hide in an empty room to learn the controls, it does nothing so you assume it's unused.

And this one bothers me a lot. The game has no health or ammo gauges, and no health to pickup anywhere. I assumed that this meant there was no healing, boy was I wrong. Apparently leaning against walls heals you. Yes, LEANING heals you! WHAT THE FUCK!@#$% I want those magical morphine walls in my new condo!

Speaking of the condo, I get my keys on monday. I am so god damn excited I can't believe it. My first home, it's a ton of responsibility but will absolutely change my life for the better. I still have no roommate and can't afford to be without one. I put an ad in the Loyola-Marymount student paper since it's walking distance to the campus but only got 3 phone calls. First one didn't return my calls. Second forgot to leave his phone number in the message and didn't show up on my caller ID. Number 3 only wanted a summer place, and I don't want to go through this again in 3 months. Also I still haven't figured out hosting, I absolutely cannot get a static IP in the new place and cannot afford any kind of hosting. A few people have emailed me links to their favorite hosts (thanks) but I still cant swing it. Fear not, my dear readers, CapsGetPeeled will never die. The power of the Westside compels it.

Slashdock 2.3.4

I know most of you love NetNewsWire, but my absolute favorite RSS reader, SlashDock, has been updated to 2.3.4. Slashdock lives in your dock, has a cool digest feature that makes an html page of all the headlines and excerpts, plus it's free. New stuff:
"Added a lot of new preconfigured sites (be sure to go to 'Sites' in preferences and click the '+ Default' button to ADD new sites - your existing sites will not be lost).
* Added Danish localization (thank you Michael Rasmussen).
* Fixed parsing problem for some feeds.
* Fixed problem with ' appearing in headlines. "

Clutter 1.0D11

Clutter, one of the better Mac OS X album cover application, has been updated to version 1.0D11:
"The Now Playing window is now resizable ... because you asked for it, over and over again.
* Contextual menus on CDs showing the title and track listing. Selecting a track plays it.
* Preference for localized Amazon search site; currently only the UK is supported, but we'll add more countries as Amazon's local sites add the capability.
* Preference to stop showing the current CD in the Dock icon."

Software updates

First we have a new Safari beta, the first public release to have tabs and Auto-fill. Too bad EVERYONE who cared about such features already grabbed a leaked beta.

Kismac has been updated to version 0.04c and adds a faster interface and faster brute force cracking of WEP keys. The ironic part is the web-page doesn't work with the new safari.

Unsanity.org has a new mini-haxie called Safari-no-timeout which changes Safari's timeout from 60 seconds to 20 minutes

Attention Rich Pot Heads

If you have lots of money to blow, and more weed than one can safely inhale, then Air's Vapir "herb" vaporizer is for you. Vaporizers heat up your "herbs" enough to release psycho-active chemicals without burning the plant matter. This means no visible smoke, no cancer causing chemicals, and a huge dent in your pocket. Normal Vaporizers cost about $75 - $100, and you can build a basic one for about $40. The Vapir uses microchip controlled heating elements as well as infrared lasers to justify it's $369 price tag. The non-rechargable model is $269. Throw in a car charger, 3 year warranty, an extra battery and shipping and you are over $700. Like any stoner has that kind of money!

iBox

According to this wired article some dude named John Fraser plans on buying lots of "Gigabit Ethernet" model Powermac G4 motherboards, and package them in a small but ugly case. OWC appears to be supplying the parts. Wonder how long till Apple sues them both? Back in the 80's a company took Apple II roms and built their own CPU's and mobo's, Apple crushed them with lawsuits.

Widget overload?

Konfabulator has spawned about a million (or 129 as of this writing) widgets. From the absolutely useless IP Serializer, which turns your IP address into a barcode (how 1984). To the still-absolutly-useless-but-kinda-cool-in-a-useless-way PowerMate Mail which flashes your Griffin Powermate (which itself goes in the useless-but-cool category) whenever you have unread mail. Although I guess that is applescriptable.

But what really caught my eye was the description for Widget Junkie:
"UPDATE::::Version 1.2 is arrival.

Is it Widget Junky?
That's right all the members.

This is Widget for acquiring the registration information on NEW Widget.
To the full, please pursue your favorite Widget."

Talk about engrish! This is an exact quote from the Konfabulator Gallery.

MechAssault and Splinter Cell Xbox Live updates

The first of (hopefully) many MechAssault updates on Xbox live is now available! Stolen from PlanetXbox.com: "Well it's finally here at last, the downloadable content for MechAssault. Released today by Microsoft and Day 1 Studios, the new content, as reported before, includes the all-new "Hells Kitchen" environment, and two new mechs: the Raven and Corvus. "Hells Kitchen" supports all five gameplay types: Destruction, Team Destruction, Last Man Standing, Team Last Man Standing and Not It, and is the first of two set to appear. In the coming weeks the "Stone Cold" map will be added. To download the new content, simply go online via Xbox Live with MechAssault."

PlanetXbox is also reporting that the first Splinter Cell download will be available March 14th. "Just a few minutes ago, Ubi Soft sent us over official word on the upcoming Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Xbox Live downloadable content. First revealed at the developer chat sometime ago, Ubi Soft stated today that the new mission, called "Kola Cell", will be available for downloading via Xbox Live on March 14th."

Micro$oft to by Connectix?

According to this article Micro$oft is looking to buy Connectix. Yes thats right, Micro$oft needs Ramdoubler. If this happens will VirtualPC Mac go the way of Virtual Gamestation (Connectix sold VGS to Sony who then killed it off)? Or maybe they will work on it so it's actually usable under OS X?

KisMac updates

KisMac 0.03b has been released. It now supports Orinoco card, has a better Preferences window and a better Traffic window. The coolest part of this post is that I am posting this from my car on the 405 Freeway using some poor fools wireless internet for free, thanks to KisMac.

For those who don't know what the hell I'm rambling about. KisMac is a wireless "stumbler". It allows you to see who is broadcasting 802.11b (Airport) and gives you detailed info about that access point. It even features basic WEP cracking. People use applications like these for WarDriving/WarChalking.

DVD ripping

A new app has entered the mac dvd ripping and converting market.
Forty-Two can go straight from DVD to Divx, VCD, SVCD, or back to DVD. I know your thinking but what about the other 30 apps i normally use for this? Well toss em cause this app makes movies IN-SYNC! Even moives that change framerate mid-movie (Matrix, Blade 2, Princess Bride). It has full crop control and descent auto-crop. It can even rip and embed subtitles. OS X only (of course).

READ THE READ ME or this app will not work.
